Study Visit through Regions

Study Visit through Regions

This trip offers a comprehensive exploration of Armenia, combining history, culture, nature, and cuisine. Travelers will visit key regions such as Vayots Dzor, known for its wine-making tradition, Lori with its green landscapes and monasteries, Shirak, which highlights the region's agricultural heritage, and Syunik, rich in historical sites and natural beauty. Of course, the tour also includes time in 2,806 years old Yerevan, one of the oldest cities in the world, where visitors can experience both its modern vibe and historical landmarks.

Exploring Yerevan - Armenia’s Historic Heart: We begin our journey in Yerevan, Armenia’s vibrant capital, where we gain an initial insight into the country's rich and ancient history. A walking tour through Yerevan will take us through the city's most iconic landmarks, including Republic Square, the Cascade, the Opera House, etc. To experience the rich traditions of Armenian craftsmanship, we will explore Vernissage, a lively open-air market filled with handmade jewelry, carpets, ceramics, and paintings created by local artisans.

Exploring Armenia's Historical Context, Geopolitical Landscape, Political Developments, and Contemporary Issues:
We will engage in meetings with local experts to gain a deeper understanding of Armenia's history, recent political developments, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and its relations with neighboring countries. Additionally, we will explore topics such as urban regeneration, social entrepreneurship, and youth-led initiatives in Armenia. The program will also include discussions on the Armenian Diaspora and talks with Russian activists in exile, offering valuable insights into these key issues.

Exploring Armenia’s Spiritual Heritage: We will also explore Noravank Monastery, famous for its beautiful red cliffs and the unique two-story Surb Astvatsatsin Church. Another highlight of the trip will be visiting Tatev Monastery, once the main spiritual and cultural center of Armenia, founded in the 9th century. It played a key role in the intellectual and religious life of medieval Armenia and housed a renowned university. The monastery’s stunning location on the edge of a deep gorge adds to its significance. To complete the experience, we will ride the Tatev Cable Car, the world’s longest aerial tramway, offering breathtaking views of the Vorotan River Gorge.

Visiting Lake Sevan -  the "Blue Pearl of Armenia" is a highlight of any trip to the country. Located in the heart of the Caucasus, it is one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in the world. The lake is home to several ancient monasteries, including Sevanavank Monastery, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Gyumri - Armenia’s Cultural and Artistic Capital: Continuing our journey, we will visit Gyumri, Armenia’s second-largest city, famous for its artistic spirit, 19th-century architecture, and warm hospitality. Gyumri’s early significance was as a crossroads for travelers and merchants, contributing to its growth as a vital hub in Armenia’s history. In the 19th century, it became an important military and trade center under Russian rule, strategically located on the border with Turkey. During the Soviet period, Gyumri transformed into a major industrial hub, with factories producing textiles, machinery, and other goods, contributing significantly to the region’s economy. Through a walking tour, we will explore these historical layers, learning about the city’s rich past, from its medieval roots to its role in the Russian Empire and Soviet era. Gyumri’s historical significance is also marked by its resilience, as the city has endured numerous challenges, including the devastating 1988 earthquake.

Traditional Cuisine and Beverages: No trip to Armenia is complete without experiencing its traditional cuisine and drinks. We will learn about ancient winemaking traditions, followed by a wine-tasting session. Additionally, a culinary workshop will allow us to prepare a traditional Armenian dish. Throughout the journey, we will enjoy regional specialties, each reflecting the unique flavors of Armenia’s diverse culinary heritage.
